With the participation of sailors representing several European countries, representatives of Gdańsk authorities and regional self-government, the Pomeranian Sailing Association and sponsors, on July 20th at 7 pm Granaria ORC Polish Nationals Gdansk 2017 have begun.
The President of the Pomeranian Sailing Association and also the Vice-President of the Polish Sailing Association for maritime affairs, Bogusław Witkowski, welcomed the participants of the regatta.
“I am delighted that this maritime event, under the care of the great sponsor that is Granaria, is taking place in the area that is undergoing such great transformations where local granaries are transforming into representative hotels.” said Witkowski. ”I hope that the championship will contribute to the popularization of this fascinating sport, sailing.”
President Witkowski also asked the guests to celebrate a minute of silence for the memory of two sailors, captains Aleksander Kaszowski and Andrzej Drapella, who died in recent weeks.
”Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of President of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz, welcome in Gdansk, a city with thousand years of maritime and port tradition.” said Leszek Paszkowski, director of Gdansk Sports Center. ”This event is a foretaste of the great struggle of European sailors, the European Championship in the ORC formula. I congratulate you that you dared to take part in it. Let the best win.
We will see if last year’s winners – in group B ”GoodSpeed” with captain Łukasz Trzciński and in group A Tymon Sadowski’s crew on ”Duży Ptak” – are going to be the best this time as well on July 23rd, when the results are be announced.
The rivalry will begin on Friday, July 21st. On this day there will be two short races in the area of the pier in Gdańsk-Brzeźno.
