We already know the results of the first day of the Polish Nationals. Foreign crews are leading, but among today’s winners is a Polish accent.
Krzysztof Krygier on the Bluefin II yacht won the group D. Estonians on “Katariin II” (skipper Aivar Tuulberg) were the best in group C, Norwegian sailors on “Aquatich” (skipper Bjorn Erik Bjornsen) in group B and Blue Nights (skipper Tea Ekengren-Sauren) in group A.
“We are very happy, especially as we are quite young crew,” says Thomas Dehler, skipper of the “Sporthotel” yacht, who was third in Group B. – Tomorrow we’ll have an offshore long distance race, that is probably ten hours on the water. We hope we are well prepared for it.
Friday’s races ran under dictation of unfavorable aura. It was raining, the wind was strong with 10-15 knots, the gusts were much stronger. It was accompanied by high waves. As a result, the crew of “Aquarella” with Andrzej Zieliński at the helm lost the mast and the female “Falcon” team with Dorota Dajkowska had to return to Gdansk with a dammaged sail.
– The first day of the championship was very rainy, but we started off on the starting area with smiles on our faces – says Dorota Dajkowska, „Falcon” skipper. “We were delighted that so many great yachts are on the water and we are in this group. Unfortunately, not from our fault, not because of regatta cause, but simply from old age, our sail teared up all over the surface. It happened just after start of the first race. We sail on the chartered yacht and we did not have the budget for the new sail and we had to deal with what we got. Now we are waiting for the sail committee’s permission to exchange sail and tomorrow, traditionally with smiles on our faces, we will start. As a Polish sailor I am extremely happy that so many yachts moor in the marina and sail on the bay. Let them have as many as possible, let as many people catch the sailor’s hobby.
